Introduction to Groups

Groups hold the contacts you text or call in GetThru. When you upload a CSV, we validate each phone number and show you which contacts are ready for texting in ThruText and which are callable in ThruTalk. This page explains what groups are, how validation works, where to review results, and how the other group-related guides fit together.

What Is a Group?

A Group is a reusable list of contacts you upload to GetThru from a CSV file. Each contact must include first name, last name, phone number, and any optional custom fields you choose to map. You can use the same group across multiple ThruText and ThruTalk campaigns.

Each group appears on the Group Index (where you can sort, filter, and take actions) and has its own Details page (where you can review validation results, suppressions, upload errors, and linked campaigns).

How Number Validation Works

After you upload a CSV, GetThru checks each phone number using carrier data and assigns statuses used by ThruText and ThruTalk.

  • Mobile, Landline, VOIP: Numbers are classified as mobile, landline, or VOIP and checked for active service.
  • ThruTalk (calling): Mobile, landline, and VOIP numbers are dialable and included in the Valid count for calling.
  • ThruText (texting): Only mobile numbers are textable. Landline and VOIP numbers are marked Invalid for texting.
    • Disconnected mobiles: Occasionally, carriers report that a mobile number is disconnected; these numbers are marked Invalid for texting.
    • Why VOIP isn’t texted: Many VOIP numbers do not accept SMS. Excluding VOIP from texting helps maintain deliverability and avoids charges for undelivered messages.

Where To Review Results

Open the Group Details to see high‑level validation information for ThruText and ThruTalk. For field‑by‑field troubleshooting of invalid numbers or errors, go to Group Details. Click Export on the group to download a CSV that includes each contact’s ThruText and ThruTalk status and, when applicable, why a number is invalid. Exports are useful for list clean‑up, auditing, and filtering outside of GetThru. For full column definitions and examples, see Group Exports

In the GetThru admin UI, a blue navigation bar with white text is displayed on the left side. The Groups drop-down menu is open, indicated by a pink dot, showing the admin is on the Active Groups page. In the center of the page, black text on a light grey background displays information for the active group of US contacts named 'Test Group'. Two tables are visible: the top table shows ThruTalk group totals, and the bottom table shows ThruText group totals.

Group Size and Upload Limits

  • Maximum contacts per group: 150,000
  • Maximum CSV file size: 45 MB (files near this limit may fail to process)
  • Tip: Remove unneeded columns or split too large CSVs into multiple files.
